KING CITY, ON – The King Rebellion are proud to announce Geoff Schomogyi as the newest Head Coach of the organization, bringing a wealth of experience and success at both the junior and professional levels. The 46-year-old returns to the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) after spending the past two seasons coaching professionally in the ECHL with the Indy Fuel.
Schomogyi is no stranger to the OJHL, having built a strong reputation over nearly a decade behind the bench. His OJHL coaching journey began as an Assistant Coach with the Georgetown Raiders from 2014 to 2016. He then took over as Head Coach of the North York Rangers, a position he held from 2016 to 2022. Most recently, he led the Toronto Patriots during the 2022-23 season.
Over the course of his OJHL tenure, Schomogyi amassed an impressive 191-101-12-20 regular-season record. In the playoffs, he guided his teams to a 26-15-0-6 mark, bringing his overall OJHL coaching record to 217-116-12-26. His leadership and consistency have made him one of the league’s most respected bench bosses, known for his player development and strategic approach to the game.
“I’m looking forward to coming back home and working alongside Jay and the rest of the staff with the King Rebellion,” said Schomogyi. “I’m excited to meet all the players and start to work on building for the upcoming season.”
Schomogyi’s return to junior hockey comes at a pivotal time for the Rebellion, who are focused on player development and long-term success both on and off the ice. His recent experience in the ECHL only adds to his already impressive resume and offers players a unique insight into what it takes to play at the professional level.
“We couldn’t be happier to bring a coach of Geoff’s caliber to the King Rebellion organization,” said General Manager Jay De Gennaro. “Our goal is to move players on to the next level each and every year, and having someone with his experience and attention to detail made Geoff a perfect fit to help us accomplish this goal.”
With a proven track record in the OJHL and valuable professional coaching experience under his belt, Schomogyi’s hiring signals a strong step forward for the King Rebellion as they prepare for the upcoming season.
