KING COMMITS TO ALBERTUS MAGNUS

“To commit to Albertus Magnus to play varsity sports means so much to me and my family. Being a small-town kid growing up playing several sports, going to school to play hockey has always been what I’ve wanted to do. Being able to compete in two sports means everything to me, and I’m just thankful for the opportunity I’ve been given by the entire staff at Albertus,” Deacon King explained.

The King Rebellion are excited to announce Deacon King’s commitment to Albertus Magnus College, where he will compete in both hockey and golf at the collegiate level (DIII) for the 2026-2027 season.

“Congratulations to Deacon on his commitment to Albertus Magnus. This is a great opportunity for Deacon to not only continue his hockey career, but also play golf at the collegiate level,” said General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations Jay De Gennaro. “He has been everything we hoped for on and off the ice since coming over to King. We look forward to a strong finish to our season and continuing to watch his growth over the next several years.”

In addition to competing on the varsity hockey team, King will also be a member of the Albertus Magnus varsity golf team, a challenge he is eager to take on.

“I think the biggest challenges with playing two sports will be managing a full schedule and balancing classes with athletics,” he explained. “Albertus has multiple two-sport athletes, so learning from them should make the transition easier. I’m very thankful for the opportunity that coaches Kyle Wallack and Matt Smith, along with everyone at Albertus, have given me.”

King was acquired by the Rebellion ahead of the OJHL trade deadline in early January from the Caledon Admirals. He currently has three points in five games with King. Over his OJHL career, he has appeared in 137 games, recording 39 goals and 44 assists for 83 points. The league has played a key role in preparing him for this next step.

“My time in the OJHL has really helped me grow as both a player and a person. All of the coaches and teammates I’ve had have been a huge factor in my development and success,” King said. “It’s a very competitive league, and it helps a lot of players get to the next level.”

King has already set goals for both his academic and athletic career.

“My goals for my first season are to perform to the best of my ability and do whatever I can to help the team win in any way possible, while also learning from everyone and gaining experience in college athletics and college life so I can succeed at the highest level,” he said.
