Leafs Legend Nikolai Borschevsky Joins the Rebellion Bench

KING, ON- The King Rebellion are proud to announce former Toronto Maple Leaf and KHL coach Nikolai Borschevsky has joined the King Rebellion as an Assistant Coach.

Borschevsky’s on ice career spanned 15 years playing in the top Russian and German leagues as well as 4 seasons in the NHL for the Calgary Flames, Dallas Stars and Toronto Maple Leafs. In 193 National Hockey League games, he notched 53 goals and 82 assists for a total of 135 points.

He also racked up an impressive 13 points in 7 games during the 1984 World Junior Hockey Championships for the Soviet Union, winning gold. He also won gold at the 1992 Winter Olympics scoring 7 goals and 2 assists in 8 games.

Borschevsky is known for scoring what is debatably the biggest goal in Maple Leafs franchise history during the Game 7 overtime period of the 1993 Norris Division Semi-Finals, knocking out the Detroit Red Wings. Click here to watch the goal!

Since 2009, Borschevsky has been a mainstay in the KHL, Russia’s top league where he has coached for various teams such as Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, SKA St. Petersburg and Salavat Yulaev Ufa.

Rebellion Head Coach and General Manager Mark Joslin said the following regarding the hire:

“Obviously I am over the top excited and honoured to have Nikolai join our Rebellion staff.

Nik and I have been friends for just over 20 years dating back to when I worked for him at his hockey school out of Doublerinks, and our son’s Brett and Val are still close friends to this day.

When I heard that he was retiring from coaching in the KHL it was a no brainer for me to ask what his interest level might be especially with our relocation from Brantford to King City.

With his playing experience in the NHL and other Pro leagues, along with his coaching career in the KHL he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our program here in King.

Our players are fortunate to have him on board.”

Everyone join us in welcoming Nikolai Borschevsky to King Nation!
