BRANTFORD, ON- The Brantford 99ers hosted the Leamington Flyers on Sunday afternoon for their 1st matchup since the Flyers promotion to Jr. A. Rookie net minder Sebastian Gatto got the start for Leamington, while Brantford relied on veteran Aiden Berry between the pipes.
After a scoreless 1st period, it was Leamington’s Griffin Grundner opening the games scoring, gathering up his own rebound in front of the net and snapping the puck far side past Berry for his 6th of the season. Just under 7 minutes later, another net front scramble found the puck land on the stick of Noah Mathieson cross crease, and Berry had no time to slide over as Mathieson deposited it into the net for his 1st career OJHL goal, increasing Leamington’s lead to 2-0. Just before the period expired, the 99ers were making a late push to get back into the game. As Leamington tried to flee the zone, Hudson Gill stole the puck and cut to the left side before making a beautiful backhand pass out front to Evin Kojokaro who wired the puck past Gatto for his 8th of the season, increasing his point streak to 7 games and cutting his teams deficit in half entering the final period.
Unfortunately for the 99ers, this was the only time they could find the back of the net as Leamington added 2 more goals in the final frame to take the win by a score of 4-1.
The 99ers are back in action this Thursday, October 26th as they take on the Caledon Admirals on home ice with the puck dropping at 7:30pm.
